My wristlet/clutch won Honorable Mention Crafts at the Weston Arts and Crafts spring awards show in May. This category includes all crafts from fabric creations to turned wood bowls to pottery to fused glass and even jewelry. So, I was very happy to receive a ribbon!

The judge said, “A wristlet clutch that is made with attention to detail. The wrist band is particularly thoughtful in its comfortable and colorful construction.”

It is already April, and I have been very busy in this “new” year. I’ve been working on items for my store, but also for friends, and for my kids.

Five wristlets or clutches for shop and upcoming show.

Hipster purses and messenger bags for the shop and upcoming show.

More wallets which I have trouble keeping in stock. These are all mostly sold, and I need to make more.

Therapy bags I made for my mom. The eye pillow is filled with flax seed, and the neck/shoulder pillow is filled with seed corn. They can be warmed or cooled.

I made a series of sewing machine mats with attached pockets for my mom, her friend, and myself. The mat is a microfiber dish drying mat, and I sewed on a five pocket flannel panel. Don’t you love my vintage singer?

Lastly, just finished robes for a king, queen, and magician for my son’s school play. Maybe Wills and Kate will want ones in the future (and Harry can be the magician!).

My scarves, messenger bags, purses, snack bag sets, wallets, and felted flowers will be at the Weston Arts and Crafts Association’s 2015 Holiday Show and Sale. The show starts on Thursday night and runs through Sunday. Hours are Thursday 7pm – 9pm. Friday and Saturday 10am – 6pm. Sunday noon – 5pm. Hope to see you there!

Due to all the snow days, school just ended a week and a half ago. I like to make teacher gifts at the end of the school year. This year, I decided to use a new pattern to make something I hadn’t made before. I picked up the book “Zakka Style” last summer, but hadn’t yet made anything from it.

My oldest son just completed fifth grade and is moving up to middle school next year. As part of the fifth grade celebration, all of the fifth graders and their teachers received water bottles. I decided to make water bottle holders from the book.

The boys helped me pick out the fabric: natural linen, natural cotton, chili pepper and blue paisley accent cotton.

Zakka style involves a bit of hand embroidery. I used a running stitch around the body of the holder and around the cotton accent rectangles.

I used a fancy machine stitch to accent the straps in the interest of time. The water bottle holders have two straps: long linen and short cotton accent. The straps can be combined to make one long strap, or just the short strap can be used.

The blue accented holder has nice shell buttons which are used to attach the straps.

For the red chili pepper accented holder, I used a metal button.

I thought both holders turned out very nice, and more importantly, the teachers loved them!
